By Gabbi Gane, Year 12
Everyone has a spectrum of ideas to share and discuss, and one event that ties all the colours together is TEDx. I’m sure we’ve all heard of TED Talks, some famous examples include: Do Schools Kill Creativity? (by Sir Ken Robinson) and Pamela Meyer’s talk on How To Spot A Liar. TEDx holds a similar concept; it’s a self-organised, independent event that brings people together in one multi-coloured discussion.
The British School Manila is hosting its very own TEDx Conference on March 12th 2016, with Head Girl Aurora Guild as TEDxBritishSchoolManila’s President. The conference is organised by a group of talented Year 12 students who have planned, designed, and outlined this event since 2015. This year’s theme is Express Yourself: a suitable title that encapsulates the progression that the human race has seen in the past century. The world is transforming into something that is more understanding and perceptive, and TEDx elicits this passion by expressing different insights from its community into one 5 hour function. The word of mouth is a significant form of connection long forgotten, and the word “share” instinctively associates with Facebook, Instagram, or other forms of social networking. TEDx connects communities when we’re not connecting our phones to battery chargers, and it makes us look around instead of looking down towards our screens. TEDxBritishSchoolManila’s conference is one not to miss; a perspicacious discussion about expressing yourself and being confident with who you are. Led by the year 12 TEDx Team, TEDxBritishSchoolManila will be held in the bunker at 12:30pm on March 12th 2016. As applications have recently been closed, we can't wait to see those of you who have successfully filled in their application forms. See you all on the 12th!
