By: Anita Peri and Liezl Bitas, Year 12
Last 21st to 23rd of January, while we were all cooped up in our classrooms, pondering about the more eventful happenings out on the field or on the court, the Boys' Football and Girls' Basketball teams were representing our school in the International Schools Activities Conference (ISAC) sports competition.
We may have heard the final results, but what really went down?
Winston asked a couple of athletes who represented our school to tell us a little more about what we missed. Here's what they had to say:
"The boys group were tremendously excited and confident going into their first ISAC game. We admit to having had a shaky start, but our confidence slowly built up as the tournament progressed, and we comfortably played into the semi-finals versus Brent Baguio. It was smooth sailing until then, when the finals became extremely intense and the challenge magnified significantly. The fierce last minute of the game led to CIS scoring an equaliser, making the score 1 to 1. After a nerve-wracking penalty shootout, we earned second place in ISAC 2016. We agree to having learned a lot and we truly enjoyed the experience. Although some of the players will be leaving this year, the team will continue BSM’s ISAC legacy."

"The first day of ISAC Girls Basketball undoubtedly could not have gone any better! Our first game was against Faith Academy Davao, the champions of ISAC 2015 Girls Basketball. Knowing that they were an extremely talented team, one that we knew was highly competitive, we were all extremely intimidated by their team. Yet, we entered the game with our heads held high, determined to fight for victory. The outcome of the game was completely unpredictable; the oscillating score caused everyone on the court to be on the edge of their seats. In the last few minutes of the game, Arianne Winter made a successful penalty shot, leaving the BSM Girls Basketball team with a win against Faith with a narrow score of 21-19. This was undisputedly the most intense, nail-biting game we played throughout the tournament. Despite being ecstatic over our success, we still had to face our last game of the day against Brent International School Manila. The team continued to work successfully together, leaving us with our second win of the tournament with the final score of 26-15.
"Due to our successful first day, we began the second day with high levels of motivation and our utmost confidence. Our first game was against Southville, one of the underdogs of this year's competition. We absolutely dominated throughout this game as we effectively carried out our offensive plays leading to a total score of 55, and we worked tremendously on defense - resulting in our team only conceding 5 points. Our second game of the day was against Cebu International School, a team that had proven to be relatively strong throughout the competition by then. Regardless of this, we continued to work collaboratively, and throughout the game we proved to have the greatest amount of chemistry on court. This therefore allowed us to dominate CIS with an end score of 30-8. However, even with the sequence of victories we earned throughout the competition, we had yet to face Brent Subic, a team we knew would put up a fight - our rival team. Despite knowing that they were previously beaten by FIA, a team we defeated the day before, we knew this would be our toughest game yet. They proved us right, finishing with a score of 27-10. "
